Cellular Subscriber Base Reaches 6.4 million

The cellular subscribers base in FY 2001-2002 recorded a growth of 80 percent to reach 6.4 million. The metros have witnessed an increase of about 88 percent. Circle A has increased by 83 percent and Circle B by about 61 percent in the subscriber figures. Circle C on the other hand has witnessed a growth of about 96 percent. The All-India monthly additions recorded a high of 3.8 lakhs subscribers. This is probably due to the fact that March being the last month of the Financial Year, the companies have taken special initiatives to ramp up subscribers.
Delhi numbers increased by 57% and Mumbai additions doubled in the last month. There has been a slight fall in the Kolkata Metro additions. Chennai monthly additions have witnesses a sharp rise. Circle A additions have shown a decline in the rate of additions and Circle B figures have shown a sharp rise in the month of March 2002. Circle C has witnessed a sharp fall in the monthly additions in the month of March 2002.
