Bharti & SOFTBANK announces mobile internet JV

Bharti enterprises and Japan's SOFTBANK corporation have formed a 50:50 joint venture by the name Bharti Softbank Holdings Pte Ltd(BSB) to focus on the mobile internet business.

BSB will take part in the mobile internet ecosystem’s growth in India while laying stress on three key areas: Social Media, Gaming and e-Commerce.

“With a fast growing economy, a large youth population and access to cheaper and faster data, there is a unique opportunity to build services ground up for mobile, especially in a country where the first screen for most is a mobile device''.said Mr. Kavin Bharti Mittal, BSB’s head of Strategy & New Product Development, talking about the joint venture.

Kavin Mittal, son of Sunil Mittal has joined Bharti enterprises recently.

The joint venture plans to further accelerate the pace of development of India’s mobile internet market, which has more than 850 million mobile subscribers making it the second largest telecom market next only to china.
