NEW DELHI: Networking major Cisco has announced that Yashtel, a division of Yashash Cable Network, has selected Cisco DOCSIS-based Remote PHY technology to deliver high-speed data, voice and video services.

This makes Yashtel the first organization across India to deploy the Remote PHY technology, which is expected to enable Yashtel to offer Internet speeds of up to 400 Mbps using standard interoperable DOCSIS 3.0 modems.

Yashtel will now be uniquely positioned to allow its customers to access broadband, make voice calls via the Internet and watch videos simply through one connection. Remote PHY technology allows the cable operator to move towards a completely digitized fiber network with deep fiber architecture, thus protecting the operator investments for a longer period of time.

The Cisco Remote-PHY solution provides a cost-effective digital fiber-based DOCSIS solution that uses Ethernet passive optical networks (EPON), Gigabit passive optical networks (GPON), or Metro Ethernet as the distribution network between the Cisco Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and the cable modem.

Both the PON (or Ethernet) and DOCSIS are used in the same network. Some of the other significant benefits this technology could provide are reduced investment cost including capital and operational expenditure, high access bandwidth, reduced CMTS hardware complexity, future-proof architecture enabling easy migration as the hardware and control functions are on separate layers , and support for all DOCSIS services

“This will enable us to achieve our aim of providing superior services and experiences to our customers and staying ahead of the game,” said KM Manjunath, Director, Yashtel (Internet Service Provider).

“By innovating Remote-PHY technology, Cisco has created a key building block for the future; a digital fiber-based solution that is standardized, cost-effective and maximizes investment protection. With the markets moving towards triple-play services, this technology will provide a critical advantage. We are very excited about its first deployment at Yashtel and look forward to its success,” said Sanjay Kaul, Managing Director, Service Provider Sales, Cisco India and SAARC.
