The phone has Android-based platform called MIUI (Mobile Internet User Interface), which is a live operating system constantly improving with frequent software updates. The MIUI platform has been the major reason behind the Chinese country's huge success in its native country.

The main features of MIUI are mixed services of a launcher, an app store, a game center, a browser, a book store, a theme store, cloud storage services, Xiaomi Mall, and a messaging app.

MIUI app store accounts for more than 70% of all the apps distributed to Xiaomi Phones.

In terms of internet connectivity, the phone supports high speed HSPA+ 3G connectivity up to 42Mbps.

The company is also expecting to launch budget smartphones Redmi 1S and Redmi Note next month. The 4.7-inch Redmi 1S will be priced at Rs 6,999, while the 5.5-inch octa-core Redmi Note will be up for sale at a price of Rs 9,999.

On being asked about the reason for not debuting with Mi4, which was launched in China simultaneously with Mi3's launch in India, Bin Lin, co-founder and president, Xiaomi, said, "We like to do things just in time. Let us begin with Mi3 and we will take the story forward."

The launch also gave insights on the dearth of Mi phones in the markets they have captured so far. But this was countered with Bin citing "high demand" as the reason for the same.

The company has so far sold 18.7 mn smartphones in 2013 and expects to sell 60 mn units by the end of this year.

It will initially have 36 service centres across 20 cities with five such centres in Delhi alone.

The accessories for Mi3 will only be available a week after its launch on Flipkart.

Last month, Chinese handset maker Oppo Mobiles announced its foray into the Indian smartphone market. A number of companies are hugely cashing in on India's smartphone market, which is the third-largest in the world.

Lin said, "We see India as a huge opportunity for us and are excited about bringing Mi products to this market. Just like in our other markets, we will strive to provide users with incredible value, and the best customer experience possible."

The company claims Mi3 to be the fastest Mi phone ever and hopes that Indian users would also like MIUI, the super intuitive Android-based operating system.
