What is the current focus of your activities?
We are currently focusing on creating specialized courses
because we believe that the days of generalized courses are over. For example,
the recently launched ‘Tata Infotech Certified Networking Engineer’ program
is targeted at providing training in networking hardware and support services.
It is a highly specialized course aimed at creating high-end skilled resources
that can service the network integration market. Overall, we are looking at
filling the skill gaps in corporates like service providers and the system
integrators. In terms of specialization, we have identified three business
areas. They are telecom, insurance, and banking. All of them are high-growth
sectors.
How are the key differentiators of your offering?
I think our competitors are more focussed on the latest
technologies while we are combining business applications and technology. This
means that we not only impart training in technological domains but also in
skills such as quality assurance, team work and interpersonal skills. In the
technology space, we believe that it is difficult to train on everything, so the
focus is on domain expertise, for example, networking, which is a specific
technology area. That is the way we have created value in our course and that is
how we are different from our competitors. And the market has given us a good
feedback.
What kind of placement support do you offer?
We have a ‘Profiles IT’ program for placements for which
we charge a fee from the students. Under this program, students are trained in
interpersonal skills and offered three job interview opportunities. The success
rate of deployment of students through this route has been 75 to 80 percent.
Which technology skills are in the greatest demand today?
Expertise in customer care and billing are going to be in
great demand. With the opening up of the international long distance services
and coming up of private national long distance players, there would be a rise
in demand for skills in retail, wholesale and interconnect billing, and billing
mediation.
