TCCS to impart telecom training to 80,000 youths

TSSC would impart telecom training to 80,000 youths across the country over the next 18 months and help infuse Rs 80 crores government support for skill development in telecom domain under the recently launched National Skill Certification and Monetary (STAR) Scheme.

In a bid to promote skills development for the telecom sector, the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) in partnership with World Trade Center Bangalore, Cisco, ITI, and UTL, has organized the Skills Conclave on April 7 in Bangalore.

TSSC envisages to skill five mn people by the year 2022.

Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) is an industry led body jointly promoted by The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), Indian Cellular Association (ICA), Telecom Centres of Excellence (TCOE) with Governing body Members including DEITY, IIM and NSDC.

The event was addressed by Aravind Sitaraman, President, Inclusive Growth, Cisco, . K L Dhingra, CMD, ITI , Dr C Rao Kasarabada, Group Chairman, UTL, Balaram Menon, President, World Trade Center Bangalore, Dr Bose K Nair, Vice-President, World Trade Center, Bangalore.

Lt Gen (Dr) SP Kochhar, CEO, Telecom Sector Skill Council, handed over industry partnership affiliations to Cisco, ITI and UTL and Skill Development Partnership Affiliation to ITI, four Cisco Affiliated Training Partners and three Training Partners with their base in Bangalore. TSSC also signed four Industry MoUs for the promotion of Skills Development.

Lt Gen (Dr) SP Kochhar, complimented Cisco, ITI and UTL for taking proactive initiatives for rolling out industry relevant courses in the telecom Sector, through their respective centers spread across the country. He was optimistic that these partnerships would strive towards maintaining quality and standards in training and delivery mechanisms.

He added, "The National Telecom Policy - 2012 recognizes that the rapid growth in the telecom Sector requires to be supported by an enhanced pace of human capital formation and capacity building. It envisions putting in place an integrated skill development strategy for the converged ICT sector as a whole. TSSC today is a single window to reach the entire ecosystem of telecom sector in India for skills development. Added to this, 85 TSSC affiliated training partners are providing skills development programs under the STAR Scheme in over 21 States and 120 cities across the length and breadth of India."

With the launch of the skills development program, TSSC is addressing one of the biggest challenges Indian businesses face today - the lack of relevant skills and an employable workforce. "We have entered into a MoU with TSSC to support the training of over 80,000 youth in India over the next 18 months. As part of this initiative, we will deploy the Cisco Education Enabled Development (CEED) platform - our cloud based video delivered solution to empower rural India through efficient delivery of skill development courses. This is a great example of how the industry can collaborate with others to use technology as the enabler for inclusive growth in the country," said Aravind Sitaraman, President Inclusive Growth, Cisco, on the occasion.
