Sunil Kumar appointed MD, CRIS

Sunil Kumar has taken over as managing director, centre for railway information systems (CRIS). He will continue to hold the post of advisor

safety in railway board in addition to his present post until further orders.

An officer of the 1976 batch of Indian railway traffic service (IRTS), Kumar has done his MBA and MA in Political Science from the University of Allahabad. During his long career, he has worked as adviser (PG), CPM(IT), Northern Railways, and member (Traffic) running allowance committee railway Board, DRM (Vadodara), ED (computerisation and information systems) railway board, chief commercial manager (G) Northern Railways and director traffic commercial (Claims) railway board.

He was director (movement) in ministry of food, government of India and deputy chief commercial superintendent, passenger reservation system,

southern railway, Madras and Senior divisional traffic Superintendent, Bangalore.

He was also senior divisional commercial superintendent. Palghat, Kerala and divisional operating superintendent, Madras and area officer, Madras.

His most notable contribution while working as ED (C&IS) in Railway Board has been the concept of Internet Ticketing and UTS which has proved to be a boon to millions of travelers daily. His fields of specialization are usage of computer for various management applications by developing software and

humanware in-house, as well as bringing in novel concepts in the field of multi-modalism.

He completed the computerization project of passenger reservation system in southern railway in 89 days against the target of 15 months and

has computerized every single office where he has worked since 1985, he gave the unique concept of Port side Container Terminal (PSCT) to CONCOR which today contributes more than 30 percent to CONCOR's Rs 1,000+crore revenue.

He was awarded the Railway Minister's medal, the highest honour of the Railway, in the year 1984 for his outstanding contribution as senior DCS

Palghat Division in improving the earning of Railways by more than Rs 1.5 crore through innovative means of raising revenue and also bringing in very high standards of services to the traveling public as platforms as well as on trains.
