BENGALURU: In a bid to strengthen its portfolio of 4G LTE smart phones, today, Samsung India launched Galaxy J2, the latest entrant in the Galaxy J series. This is the company’s 17th launch in the series and 23rd addition to its portfolio, this year.

“Samsung Galaxy J2, the entry level 4G smart phone, has been specially made keeping in mind the Indian consumer's sensibilities to make 4G accessible and relevant for all,” said Asim Warsi, Vice President, Marketing-IT & Mobile at Samsung India.

Barely 13% of Indians use smartphones. Currently, there are about 160 million smartphone users in India while the corresponding figure for China is 42% and for a country like Brazil the smartphone penetration is at 24%.

However, as 4G takes-off in India, the scenario will change with rapid adoption of smartphones, believes Warsi. He stated that Samsung, the market leader is ready for the opportunity and has partnered with Airtel for leveraging it.

The company is bundling a double data offer from Airtel with the new Galaxy J2 device. According to Warsi, the move addresses three key customer issues of data being expensive, battery draining out fast, and a need for better display given the video content consumption on these devices.

Galaxy J2 positions Ultra Data Saving Mode (UDS) as one of its key propositions. The UDS enables Samsung give its customers a cost efficient 4G Internet experience without compromising on the rich and immersive display on its super AMOLED screen. “The UDS mode provides up to 50% savings in data and also frees up to 11% RAM,” informed Warsi.

Opera Max along with Samsung R&D Institute of India has powered the UDS Mode. It lets users allow /block individual apps from using mobile data and saves data by enabling data optimization at the same time. These actions are enabled with just one click in Ultra Data Saving Mode.

“To ensure that our mobile devices deliver the greatest value to our consumers in India, we want to answer their concerns about excessive data usage by providing an easy-to-use solution,” said Dr Oh, MD, Samsung Research India. “Integrating our Ultra Data Saving mode with Opera Max will give our users the most advanced savings enabling them to get the most out of their data plans,” added Dr Oh.

Samsung Galaxy J2 comes embedded with a 'Smart Manager' that looks after the mobile's operations and settings to ensure optimal performance. It has 1.3 GHz Exynos quad core processor, 1 GB RAM and measures just 8.4mm with a 5 mega pixel rear camera and 2 mega pixel front camera. It has a premium metallic finish and faux-leather back panel with soft rounded edges and is available in gold, white, and black colors at Rs 8,490.

The device will be available from September 21 in India.
