In accordance with a tweet from the National Broadband Mission, a division of Ministry of Communications, PM Narendra Modi could introduce 5G services in India on October 1st during the yearly technology convention, India Mobile Congress(IMC), which he is scheduled to inaugurate. The tweet was subsequently removed though.

The sector is heavily represented at the annual IMC, including the three major private carriers, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea being a part. This year's IMC, which runs between October 1 to October 4, will be officially launched by the Prime Minister.

IMC tweeted," it brings us great pleasure to announce Shri Narendra Modi, the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, inaugurating the "India Mobile Congress." On October 1-4, 2022, join us at Pragati Maidan to see the largest technology event in Asia.

On the IMC website, speakers for the event this year include, among others, Communications, IT and Railways Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal and Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla.

Ashwani Vaishnaw had stated in July of this year that phased-in availability of 5G services will begin in India in October. Following the prompt issuing of spectrum allocation letters, the Minister further instructed telecom companies to begin planning for the rollout of 5G services across the nation in August.

Apart from this, Mukesh Ambani announced at the company's 45th annual general meeting in that Reliance Jio will launch 5G wireless services by by Diwali beginning with four with major cities; Delhi Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. Additionally, he mentioned that similar services would be swiftly extended across the country in stages over the course of 18 months, with the goal of having the entire nation covered by December 2023.

In a similar announcement, Gopal Vittal, the CEO of Bharti Airtel had stated in September that the company anticipates launching 5G services in a month, with coverage expected to extend to all urban areas by the end of 2023, including major metro areas by December.
