Tell us about your professional services division.
CommWorks’ Professional Services Group (PSG) is meant for
the service provider space. The additional requirement and expectations from the
telcos in that space is much greater than from the vendors. We found that as we
move into more complex technologies in the wireless, wireline, and enhanced data
services space, customers expect us to provide additional professional services
that compliment products and solutions.
What are the services you are going to provide?
In PSG, we have added services like server integration or
customized application development. Quite often, a customer has a requirement to
change or customize some of the software to suit applications interfaces. We
customize application development. We felt that there were requests for more and
more customization in that area, so we decided to broadbase our PSG to enhance
our customer-application development process. We also want to be able to better
serve with billing and provisioning that suits their exact requirements.
What is the status of OSS among service providers in
India?
In India, service providers don’t have legacy
infrastructure. So we can start from the scratch. In terms of basic access, we
have legacy and the same challenges as the operators elsewhere. For enhanced
data services we are in a better position. As part of the expansion of that
group, we have also put in local professional services engineers in that
country. Over the last one year we have recruited some professionals in New
Delhi and Mumbai.
