Cost of computing should come to
zero, predicts Bill Gates. Cost of communicating should follow, says Reed Hundt.
Logically, cost of surfing should be even less, i.e., negative. In other words, someone
else should incur the cost when you surf the Net. Wishful thinking. Right?
Wrong. A Palo Alto-based Internet
innovator, AllAdvantage.com (http://www.alladvantage.com)
has actually announced a service that pays you to be online. The catch: you have to put a
viewbar at the bottom of your browser window when surfing, which will display
advertisements. The advertisers pay the company. You make 50 cents for each online hour
you spend, up to a maximum of $20 per month. You can register free at the company’s
website.
What is more, you can make more
money by the company’s referral payment system. That means you are also paid when
your referred person or someone referred by your referred person spends time online.
And now, guess who has the rightful claim for the
money when you spend time online.
