Huawei gets $220 deal from Vodafone India

NEW DELHI: Chinese telecoms giant Huawei Technologies has received $220 million (Rs 1,470 crore) deal from Vodafone India, according to source.

Under the deal, Chinese equipment maker will provide managed services, including network operations, to Vodafone in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Chennai and Odisha circles. It replaces Nokia which previously had the contract for this work

It will also be providing network operations in Andhra Pradesh and Delhi. Huawei will provide managed services, including network operations, to Vodafone in Kerala, Tamil Nadu & Chennai and Odisha circles, replacing Nokia.

It will also offer network operations in Andhra Pradesh and Delhi, where Nokia will continue to provide only partial managed services for Vodafone India.

The new contract follows a recent contract Huawei won from Bharti Airtel for upgrading the wireline network with vectoring, GPON and G.Fast technologies to deliver 100Mbps broadband services in almost ninety Indian cities.

The deal has already been signed between Vodafone and Huawei. Both companies are now working towards formalisation of the contract, which includes transition of staff according to the Indian media.

Third-party employees working with the existing vendor will now move to Huawei, along with some of Vodafone and Huawei’s full-time employees. It is estimated that a total of over 1,000 employees will be working on the new managed services contract.
