NEW DELHI: GSM mobile operators added 8.87 million subscribers in January, taking their overall user base to 687.42 million at the end of January 2015, according to GSM industry body Cellular Operator Association of India (COAI).

"The number of all India GSM cellular subscriber base rose 1.31 percent," COAI said.

The GSM mobile user base stood at 678.5 million at the end of December 2014.

As per COAI, the top GSM cellular operator Bharti Airtel, with 220.05 million subscribers, added 2.84 million new subscribers last month alone.

"Idea Cellular came next with 2.22 million, followed by Vodafone India at 1.82 million additions last month," the GSM lobby group said.

Meanwhile, Aircel, Uninor , Videocon and MTNL added 0.9 million, 0.86 million, 0.17 million and 0.02 million subscribers, respectively.

The total number of mobile subscribers of Vodafone stood at 180.49 million, Idea Cellular 152.76 million, Aircel 79.62 million, Uninor 44.49 million, Videocon 6.63 million and MTNL 3.39 million.
