With this decision, MTS Board has named Deputy COO and CFO Sergey Savchenko as the new CEO. MTS Board has also appointed Elena Peretrukhina as interim CFO. Both the appointments will come into effect from September 7, 2015.

Dmitry Shukov, in an internal email to employees, had expressed that his immediate plan is to go back to his family in Moscow and then proceed to a new country to take on a new role in an unannounced city.

He joined Sistema Shyam in June 2013 and was responsible for turning the company into OIBDA positive across all nine telecom circles where it operates. Sistema Shyam runs pure CDMA-based mobile services in nine circles under the MTS brand.

Incidentally, Shukov's decision to leave MTS comes less than three months after Reliance Communications announced that it is in exclusive talks with Sistema to merge the Russian conglomerate's Indian telecom assets with itself through a stock swap.

If the merger with RCom is successful, MTS CFO Sergey Savchenko will play a key role. Sergey has been with MTS India for the last seven years, right from the inception of the company and was responsible for the overall supervision of the finance, legal and compliance functions, implementation of best practices of management and control, the company said.
