Gian Dilawari is the chief
operating officer and co-founder of Gemplex Internet, Inc. Gemplex is a
business-networking services provider offering secure
connectivity worldwide. With its flagship IP VPN product portfolio, Gemplex
offers frame-relay performance at IP prices.
Dilawari joined Gemplex from Cable & Wireless, a $12b annual revenue
company, where he spent 25 years establishing and leading large-scale,
multinational telecommunications projects and innovative business initiatives.
At the time of his departure he was directly responsible for an organization of
more than 600 software engineers and technical specialists. Dilawari held several
executive roles in Cable & Wireless USA, including senior vice-president
(systems and technology), services organization, CTO and president, prepaid
services division. In this role he was responsible for all US engineering and IT
activities. He also evaluated how capitalizing on new technology developments
would impact C&W USA’s organizations at a time when the Internet was
emerging as a powerful new force in the industry.
Under his leadership, the Cable & Wireless group worldwide developed
significant capabilities in both voice and data services including Global ATM,
Global Managed Data Services and the Cable & Wireless Internet exchange (CWIX)
service. Dilawari was one of the key executives responsible for the acceleration
of C&W’s Internet strategy, including the $1.7 billion purchase of MCI’s
US Internet assets.
Dilawari completed his mechanical engineering studies in New Delhi, India,
and received his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Catholic
