COAI: Working with DoT and IPs to Mitigate the Impact of Cyclone Tauktae

Telecom industry body COAI has said that it is working with the telecom department and the local TSPs to mitigate the impact of Cyclone Tauktae.

Telecom industry body COAI said that it is working closely with the telecom department and service providers to limit the damage and impact of Cyclone Tauktae, which has been wreaking havoc on India's west coast.

COAI Working to Ensure Connectivity amidst Cyclone Tauktae

S. P. Kochhar, DG, COAI said, "COAI is working closely with DoT, IPs and local authorities to minimize the impact of Cyclone Tauktae".

COAI represents India's Big Telco - Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, along with multiple telecom equipment vendors.

Kochhar added, "we are taking every possible step to mitigate Cyclone Tauktae’s impact in Gujrat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa and Diu".

He also added that COAI is working to mitigate the adverse impact of this cyclone.

COAI further added that it has started Intra circle roaming. The move will make sure that mobile phone users can easily switch between TSPs.

Further, COAI has also enabled Priority Call Routing, which is helping government officials to coordinate and execute restoration work.

Kochhar also said, "All TSPs and their OEM partners have deployed extra workforce on the ground to protect and restore telecom infrastructure". To that regard, TSPs have deployed additional Cell on Wheels (CoW) to support impacted telecom sites. Furthermore, they have also collected required diesel and battery backup where electricity is disrupted. Lastly, COAI is maintaining a close coordination with the NDMA and their teams in the field.
