The Department of Telecommunications' (DoT) primary telecom R&D centre, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), has signed a consortium arrangement with top industry partners to strengthen India's telecom R&D capabilities.

Lekha Wireless Solutions Private Limited, Signaltron Systems Private Limited, Sooktha Consulting Private Limited, and Resonous Technologies Private Limited are a part of the collaboration, as stated in the official statement. This partnership's main goal is to create a Disaggregated 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) Solution together.

The "C-DOT Collaborative Research Programme 2022 (CCRP-2022)" is a programme that aims to create indigenous telecom products and solutions that are both innovative and economically viable. This agreement is the program's second endeavour. VVDN Technologies Private Limited and WiSig Networks Private Limited previously signed the first agreement under this programme to pursue the development of a 5G Open RAN.

In order to support both public and private 5G networks, the cooperation seeks to develop an O-RAN-compliant disaggregated 5G RAN solution. This solution will work well in the FR1 and FR2 frequency bands.

The CEO of C-DOT spoke at the historic agreement signing ceremony, praising the enormous potential of Indian R&D and stressing the importance of a collaborative strategy that taps technical talents from across the industry. He expressed confidence that this alliance would help India become self-sufficient in the 5G sector and encourage the expansion of more telecom players in the Startup-MSME ecosystem.

As a business incubator and facilitator, C-DOT will play a crucial role in providing crucial financial and infrastructure support for crucial tasks including testing, interoperability evaluation, field trials, and Proof of Concept (POC). This tactical move is intended to hasten the release of indigenous 5G RAN solutions, giving the Indian telecom sector a competitive advantage.
