Bharti Airtel announces the appointment of a new COO

Shashwat Sharma has been appointed as Bharti Airtel's new Chief Operating Officer (COO). The telco informed the stock exchanges of the modifications on Sunday in a late filing. Sunil Taldar, the Director of Operations for Airtel's India business, has been transferred to Airtel Africa.

Sunil Taldar, who previously served as Airtel's Director of Operations for the India division, is now working for Airtel Africa. Taldar will serve as the Director for Transformation at Airtel Africa, a rapidly expanding telecom provider in the continent of Africa. Prior to this, Sharma served as CEO of the telco's DTH division, Airtel Digital TV, as well as the head of marketing and consumer business at Airtel.

Sharma's previous role has been given to Amit Tripathi. As director of marketing and customer experience, Tripathi will succeed. Siddharth Sharma has been nominated to run the DTH company. The modifications have already been made, and Bharti Airtel's new COO is Shashwat Sharma.

According to a Statista report, with more than a billion subscribers as of 2022, India was the second-largest telecoms market worldwide. Bharti Airtel, had about 574 million users as of the end of the fiscal year 2023. 375 million of these subscribers came from India. Over 18 countries, including those in Asia and Africa, are served by the company. The company is one of the top three mobile service providers in terms of subscribers. Over 1.39 trillion Indian rupees in revenue were recorded by Bharti Airtel Limited for the 2023 fiscal year. In comparison to the prior fiscal year, this represented an increase in revenue of around 19.4%.

The top among the private telecoms in terms of average revenue per user is Bharti Airtel. As of Q1 FY24, Airtel's ARPU was Rs 200, which also matched its short-term ARPU objective. The long-term objective of the telecom is to achieve an ARPU of Rs. 300.
