Asus, Intel collaborate to launch 7 inch phablet

Asus and Intel joined hands to launch a hybrid version of phone and tablet, named Fonepad, in the Indian market. The phablet is 3G enabled, 7 inch in size and powered by an Intel Atom processor. The latest device from Asus uses Android Jelly Bean as its OS which can be upgraded to the very next versio- 4.2.

The Asus Fonepad features a vibrant HD display with IPS technology for wide viewing angles and outstanding clarity.

"Users now want a better screen with entertainment, social media and other online activities and this is playing an increasingly important part in our mobile lifestyles," said Mr. Peter Chang, Regional Director - South Asia & Country Manager, System Business Group, ASUS India.

The 7-inch screen features 10-point multi-touch with 1280 x 800 HD resolution. for crisp, readable web page text and incredibly detailed photos. IPS technology ensures vibrant color with 178-degree wide viewing angles, and images that are clear and bright, even outdoors.

As far as partnership with Intel is concerned, the tech giant i snot only providting technical expertise to the pahblet maker, but it would also help Asus in promoting the device in the Indian market.

"This is just the beginning. We will significantly increase the urgency to introduce a range of innovative and differentiated offerings that will shape the future of this segment," said Debjani Ghosh, Managing Director- Sales and Marketing Group, Intel South Asia.

The Asus Fonepad weighs 340g, 10.4mm in width, offers 1080p HD video decoding and up to nine hours of battery life. It comes with 8GB of internal storage capacity and has an SD card slot for up to 32GB of additional storage. It features a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera for easy video chat and a 3-megapixel autofocus rear camera with 720p HD video recording. The device is priced at a MRP of Rs 15,999 and will be available in the Indian market by the end of this month.
