SWOT |
STRENGTH: Telecom cable manufacturer WEAKNESS: Market-savviness OPPORTUNITY: Non-DoT market THREAT: OFC would be a competitive market |
Tamilnadu Telecommunications Ltd (TTL), which is the public limited company
promoted by TCIL and Tamilnadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd, has done
well in the past two years primarily because of the steady growth in JFT and OFC
cables. In 2000-01, it grew from a total turnover of Rs 63.04 crore to Rs 113
crore. The bulk of its revenue has come from the JFT cables. The prime market
for its products has been DoT and in order to ensure that it continues to bag
the orders, TTL has also acquired the ISO 9002 certification and increased its
capacity. This, the company believes, will also help in fetching it more export
orders.
The company is diversifying into the manufacture of high value optical fiber
cables by entering into a joint venture with Fujikura Limited, Japan, which will
provide technological inputs for optical fiber cables.
